Chapter 14: The Surajkund Fair

Pictographs and bar charts use pictures or bars to show how much of something there is. Tall bars mean bigger numbers; short bars mean smaller numbers.

Read through these first, then try the practice below.

  1. Example 1 — Reading a pictograph

    Each ★ stands for 5 visitors. A row has 4 stars. How many visitors does it show?

    Solution: 4 × 5 = 20 visitors.

  2. Example 2 — Tallest bar

    A bar chart shows: Toys 12, Sweets 18, Books 9, Clothes 15. Which item was bought the most?

    Solution: Sweets, with 18.
