Class 3

Chapter 4: Vacation with My Nani Maa

Many real-life tasks become easier when we break them into a sequence of small steps. Story problems with money or distance can be solved the same way: read, plan, compute, check.

Learning outcomes

  • Plan a simple journey using sequences of steps
  • Apply addition and subtraction to story problems

Activities

  • Step-by-step trip plan
  • Pocket-money story sums

Worked examples

Read through these first, then try the practice below.

  1. Example 1 — A simple plan

List the first three steps to pack a bag for a 2-day trip to your grandmother's house.

Solution: 1) Decide what you need each day. 2) Take out the items. 3) Pack them in your bag. (Other orders are fine — the key idea is breaking the task into steps.)

  2. Example 2 — Story sum

Aman had ₹50. He spent ₹18 on a snack and ₹12 on a bus ticket. How much money is left?

    Solution: Total spent = 18 + 12 = ₹30. Money left = 50 − 30 = ₹20.
