Exponents are a short way to write repeated multiplication. Laws: aᵐ × aⁿ = aᵐ⁺ⁿ; aᵐ ÷ aⁿ = aᵐ⁻ⁿ; (aᵐ)ⁿ = aᵐⁿ; a⁰ = 1.

    Solution: 3000 = 3 × 10³.
