Chapter 6: House of Hundreds — I

Three-digit numbers are made of hundreds, tens and ones. To compare two numbers, look at the hundreds digit first; if they match, look at the tens; then the ones.

  1. Example 1 — Compare 357 and 375

    Which number is larger: 357 or 375?

    Solution: Hundreds match (3 = 3). Tens: 5 < 7, so 375 is larger.

  2. Example 2 — Write in words

    How do you read 408 in words?

    Solution: Four hundred eight.
