Festivals are full of counting and adding. We can add bigger numbers more easily by breaking them into tens and ones, or by adding the easier parts first.

  1. Example 1 — Add the easy way

    Find 27 + 38 quickly.

    Solution: Add tens: 20 + 30 = 50. Add ones: 7 + 8 = 15. Total: 50 + 15 = 65.

  2. Example 2 — Plan and add

    Meera made 24 rakhis on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. How many rakhis in all?

    Solution: 24 + 18 = 42 rakhis.
