Chapter 8: Fair Share
Sharing things equally is the same idea as dividing. If something does not share evenly, what is left over is called the remainder.

Worked examples
Read through these first, then try the practice below.
Example 1 — Equal share
Share 12 chocolates equally between 4 friends. How many does each get?
Solution: 12 ÷ 4 = 3. Each friend gets 3 chocolates.
Example 2 — Sharing with leftovers
Share 10 toffees equally among 3 friends. How many each, and what is left over?
Solution: Each friend can get 3 toffees (3 × 3 = 9). 10 − 9 = 1 toffee is left over.
