Four-digit numbers are made of thousands, hundreds, tens and ones. To compare them, look at the leftmost digit first.

  1. Example 1 — Read 4308

    Write the number 4308 in words.

    Solution: Four thousand three hundred eight.

  2. Example 2 — Compare 2945 and 2954

    Which is bigger?

    Solution: Thousands match (2 = 2). Hundreds match (9 = 9). Tens: 4 vs 5, so 2954 is bigger.
