When we have many equal groups, multiplication is a quick way to count. An array is a rectangle of dots arranged in equal rows.

Example 1 — Array of dots
An array has 4 rows and 6 dots in each row. How many dots in total?
Solution: 4 × 6 = 24 dots.
Example 2 — From repeated addition
Write 7 + 7 + 7 as a multiplication.
Solution: Three 7s, so 3 × 7 = 21.
